With Stephane Dion rated by Canadians as their
3rd choice as Prime Minister, even behind
Taliban Jack, the Liberal Party of Canada is getting desperate with their choices of what to do.
The best choice, it seems, is to go back to the traditional fear mongering about a false agenda that just doesn't exist. In the Liberal's latest new
bulletin on their website, dated February 20th, they definitely show the fear mongering that they are so well known for.
Too caught up in implementing their ideologically-driven social agenda, the Conservative minority government has no plans to make a positive impact on the lives of newcomers to Canada, the Liberal Opposition said today.
So, what is this "ideologically-drive social agenda"? I really haven't seen it, or have any idea where they might be coming from. If anything, the Liberals are the ones that like to create programs that try to tell Canadians what to think and what their values should be. They like to call it "leadership", by taking the lead, I call it
totalitarianism.
So, I think I should probably discuss what they think they're trying to talk about, with the government apparently not helping out newcomers.
Why does this government continue doing nothing so that new Canadians' skills can be recognized, so that they can reach their full potential?
Is that so? Wow, now that's sure interesting, I could have sworn I just heard that Harper had been talking about that after Jack brought it up the other day. First, let's take a look at the Conservative Party of Canada's
policies!
T) IMMIGRATION
...
104. Recognition of International Credentials
The Conservative Party
believes in providing new immigrants with the best possible opportunity to use
their education and experience here in Canada. We see this as a matter of
fairness to newcomers and their families and a means of ensuring that Canada
receives the full benefit of immigration.
A Conservative Government will:
i) work with the provinces to develop, in consultation with Canadian
professional and trade associations, a process to evaluate standards in
countries of origin in order to establish a workable system for assessing and
recognizing credentials and experience;
ii) work with the provinces to develop, in consultation with Canadian
professional and trade associations, criteria for obtaining equivalent Canadian
professional status and transition programs for integration of immigrants into
the Canadian workplace;
iii) require the credentials process to be disclosed to applicants by
immigration staff overseas and on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada
website;
iv) encourage international students graduating from accredited Canadian
colleges and universities to remain and work in Canada; and
v) develop a better system to identify Canada’s labour market needs and
make the points system more flexible to ensure these needs can be met.
Wow, is that so? I guess that libelous Liberal complaint about this ideological agenda wasn't anything to be afraid of afterall! The decietful Liberals are trying to trick newcomers into voting for them when the Conservatives indeed do want to help them afterall. Moving on, since we've addressed the ideological aspect, let's take a look at what's actually happening. On CTV.ca, we can find a report on Jack's
call for recognition of these credentials.
There has been some action. Last year's federal budget allocated $18
million for consultation on the creation of a foreign credentials recognition
program.
...
In a statement issued Sunday, Immigration Minister Diane Finley
said the federal government is committed to improving the credentials
process.
"Canada's new government, through Citizenship and Immigration Canada
and Human Resources and Social Development Canada, is committed to establishing an office that will help qualified foreign-trained professionals become
accredited so they can practice in their chosen fields in Canada,'' she
said.
Finley also stressed that there must be co-operation at all levels
of government in order to better help new immigrants land better jobs.
"Improved labour market integration is critical so that Canada can
continue attracting and retaining the skilled immigrants it needs,'' she said.
"All levels of government have a role to play in integrating immigrants into
Canadian society and the economy."
Well, it's good that Jack is willing to say something, maybe that's why he's in second place for PM in the public's eye. Of course the government is doing something, and as long as the opposition doesn't oppose it, there should be some progress on the issue.
There is more in the Liberal article that I won't get into much. One such example is
"hurting minorities, women, aboriginal, youth and the environment, this Conservative government acted ruthlessly and cut essential programs", which could have been better described as luxury programs run by the
CUPE with high wages out of your wallets. Nobody was hurt.
